Frequently Asked Questions

Computers

  1. What policy is best suited for your needs?

  2. Does the Premier Portable Computer policy cover equipment everywhere?

  3. Do you get a new version if yours is stolen and the model is no longer available?

1. What policy is best suited for your needs?

If you have only one laptop computer, you will probably need the PREMIER PORTABLE COMPUTER policy which covers the computer in most places inside and outside, during the day and night. You can also extend it to cover breakdown and travel overseas.

If you have a number of laptop computers and peripherals, you will probably need the COMMERCIAL PORTABLE COMPUTER policy, which provides the same cover as the Premier Portable Computer policy (see above) EXCEPT it doesn't cover equipment on your BUSINESS premises OUTSIDE BUSINESS HOURS. You should have a conventional property insurance programme to cover that risk.

If you have a quantity of DESKTOP and/or LAPTOP computers and peripherals, you will probably need the DESKTOP AND PORTABLE COMPUTER policy, which provides cover for equipment in your premises 24/7 and elsewhere(laptops only).

Please note some specific exclusions apply. Read the Product Disclosure Statement for full details.

The above is general advice only. It does not constitute personal advice.

2. Does the Premier Portable Computer policy cover equipment everywhere?

Not quite. We don't cover computers on boats or being carried on or off one. Also, we don't cover theft from an unattended vehicle unless the vehicle has clearly been broken into (with physical evidence). Also, cover overseas is an optional extension. For full policy information read our Product Disclosure Statement.

3. Do you get a new version if yours is stolen and the model is no longer available?

If your computer was bought new in Australia and is less than 6 years old, you will get a "nearest equivalent" computer, with technical specifications at least as good as the computer you lost. We will match brands if possible, but otherwise will provide an equivalent standard of brand.

If you wish to upgrade, we can contribute the cost of the nearest equivalent towards the cost of your better one.

If the computer is over 6 years old, we will pay to you the new value of the computer you lost (see above), less 10% for each year or part of a year over 6 years of age, up to a maximum of 70%.
